Matthew I of Constantinople : ウィキペディア英語版 | Matthew I of Constantinople Matthew I ((ギリシア語:Ματθαῖος Α´)) was the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople from 1397 to 1405. A monk and protégé of Nilus Kerameus, he was ordained Bishop of Cyzicus in 1387, during the former's patriarchate. Through the support of Emperor Manuel II Palaiologos, he became Patriarch in 1397, but soon encountered the opposition of the metropolitans Macarius of Ancyra and Matthew of Medea, who finally succeeded in deposing him in a patriarchal synod in 1405.〔 ==References==
